Only minutes north of downtown Durango, the valley is an impressive mix of home types, ranging from historic farm and ranch land to upscale golf community neighborhoods. The Animas River winds its way through the valley from the San Juan Mountains, south, to Durango, through pastoral, scenic vistas of the ‘Red Cliffs’, carved by glaciers long ago. Some sections of this area are locally referred to as ‘Southwest Colorado’s Gold Coast’, and present opportunities to own quite prestigious homes where National Forest lands make up a large portion of the lands north of town. Dalton Ranch Golf Club, in the heart of the Animas Valley, is to some degree, the center of private homes in the valley, and Trimble Crossing offers an upscale master-planned home community, while Estancia is yet another of the many pocket neighborhoods in the valley.
